Life Church took great care in choosing vibrant colours and good furniture, investing over £50,000 to create a space that serves the community. In the first few months of opening, people shed tears at what greeted them. They could not believe we had given them such a beautiful place, as they believed Bedworth folk didn’t matter.

WHY THE NAME HARBOUR?The definition of a Harbour includes words like shelter and refuge and the prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament describes God as:
“a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat.” (Isaiah 25:4 New Living Translation) We want people to see the Harbour Centre as a place of protection during the storms of life, a place where they can be refreshed and then re-equipped/ supported to continue their journey. |
The fundamental aims of the Harbour Centre is to enable; to empower and to facilitate opportunities for people to use the building as they need to, and not as we think they may need. The Harbour Centre aspires to be a holistic hub with God at the centre of all we do.
The Harbour Centre is a benefit to the community, the team offer a friendly welcome and it is a bright, warm and safe place.” |
When you come in its an absolute delight and you can sense the peace in the place, and everyone is so friendly. |
At the end of our first year over 2,500 people had signed up as Grocery Store members with 130 households visiting daily. The Galley coffee shop have up to 300 people visit during the week, with many customers now wanting to reserve their favourite seats on a weekly basis. The Cabin area has facilitated well-being courses like Calm Waters, Valley Paths, offered many different drop-in sessions from social prescribers, Citizen Advice to Craig Tracey, our local M.P. who offers a monthly surgery. Over 20 different agencies work with us to offer different layers of support. We estimated that 38,000 people would come through the Harbour Centre in the first year, 56.000 individuals have visited.
We have been supported by or worked alongside 47 different agencies from businesses, organisations, churches and schools and of course the general public. Their generosity has been awesome.
